Methanol Implementation: Singapore Implementing Methanol Bunkering Initiative for Sustainably Responsible Global Trade

Singapore conducted the world’s first methanol bunkering operation for a container ship during cargo operations on Monday, 27th May 2024. This pioneering initiative reflects Singapore’s strategic focus on environmental sustainability and was coordinated by the #Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA). The operation not only showcases the country’s commitment to green shipping technologies but also highlights its leadership in this crucial area.

Green opportunities arise

Green opportunities are emerging in the shipping industry, extending beyond alternative fuels. Besides implementing methanol bunkering operation, enabling paperless processes and reducing physical movements of people can also dramatically reduce carbon footprints. Qwiik supports a more sustainable vision of green shipping by eliminating emails and the need for physical counter services.
